Financial Aid

Students admitted to the graduate program usually receive financial assistance. University fellowships, teaching assistantships, and research assistantships are available. Most students in the astronomy program support themselves with half-time teaching assistantships during the first one or two years. Salaries started at $14,100 for the 9 month 2002-03 academic year, in addition to a tuition waiver. Students also usually receive summer work support ($3,133 in summer 2001). Advanced students may compete for University fellowship or research assistantships offered by faculty members whose research is supported by federal grants. Recent graduate students have also held National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowships and NASA Graduate Student Researcher Program fellowships.
