BOOTES (NORTH)

Bootes, the Herdsman, rises, its kite-shaped figure stretching up and to the left of the bright orange star Arcturus, which is toward the lower right of the picture. Izar (Epsilon Bootis) is the bright star to the left of and slightly down from Arcturus, while Delta is down and to the left of Izar. Nekkar is at the far left end of the kite, above center-left. Seginus is the bright star near the top toward the left-hand corner, while Alkalurops is near the left edge, just below center. The stars of extreme northwest Bootes (including Theta and Lambda) lie near the end of the tail of Ursa Major. The variable W Boo is to the right of Izar, while the pair made of Rho and Sigma (Rho on top) is just up from center. 12 Boo is up and to the left of Arcturusi, while Xi Boo is the second star down and to the left of it. A view shifted to the south shows Muphrid. Nusakan, in Corona Borealis, the Northern Crown, appears at bottom center.
